OWNER’S VISION FOR PHOA:
My strategic vision for the Philippine Hotel Owners Association (PHOA) is to transform our organization into a dominant force in advocacy, asset optimization, and robust investment growth.
Under my leadership, PHOA will actively steer national tourism and economic policy rather than merely reacting to it, engaging directly with government stakeholders to foster a highly favorable investment climate. Furthermore, I am committed to future-proofing our members’ investments by launching high-value growth programs, delivering the cutting-edge market insights and strategic asset-management initiatives necessary to maximize long-term asset value in an evolving global market.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
A career highlight was serving as the first Filipino General Manager appointed overseas by an international hotel chain. Leveraging five decades of global hospitality experience, I focus on driving institutional resilience, proactive crisis management, and robust labor relations to protect both investors and the workforce.
Drawing on my consulting background with the country’s top conglomerates, I aim to foster strategic investments and sustainable tourism infrastructure in emerging destinations like Siargao and Davao. By merging international operational expertise with deep local roots, I am committed to mentoring the next generation of hospitality leaders, championing fair enterprise standards, and elevating the Filipino brand of excellence on the global stage.

OWNER’S VISION FOR PHOA:
My vision for PHOA is to champion the interests of hotel owners by promoting policies that enhance asset value, encourage investment, and strengthen the competitiveness of Philippine tourism. I believe in building a hospitality industry anchored on authentic Filipino hospitality, operational excellence, and sustainable growth. Through collaboration among owners, government, and industry stakeholders, PHOA can help create a more favorable investment climate and position the Philippines as a leading tourism destination in Asia.
In recent years, I have actively supported PHOA in the creation and sponsorship of various industry studies and research initiatives that have helped shape the common agenda of hotel asset owners and provided valuable insights to policymakers and stakeholders. Building on this foundation, I am committed to further strengthening PHOA’s role as a trusted industry voice, using data-driven advocacy and collaboration to advance policies that enhance asset value, encourage investment, and benefit the broader tourism ecosystem.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
Throughout my career, I have sought to build hospitality brands and destinations that celebrate and elevate Filipino hospitality. Under Filinvest Hospitality, our hotels and resorts have earned multiple local and international awards, reflecting our commitment to exceptional guest experiences and world-class standards.
I intend to leverage my experience in hospitality development, operations, and governance to help address key industry challenges, promote sustainable growth, and strengthen the competitiveness of Philippine tourism. Filinvest Hospitality is also a leader in sustainability, with various initiatives implemented across our portfolio and documented in our annual sustainability reports. Through collaboration among owners, operators, and government, I hope to help elevate Philippine hospitality on the regional and global stage.

OWNER’S VISION FOR PHOA:
As a multi-site owner representing hotels and at the same time a hospitality management company, I am in a unique position to understand both ownership priorities and operational side of the business. Having worked closely with mid-market hotels and medium-sized properties, I recognize the opportunities and challenges faced by this segment of the hospitality industry. I am committed to upholding the interests of hotel owners and ensuring that their concerns are actively represented and addressed within the association.
My vision is to strengthen the collaboration among hotel owners and industry stakeholders to create a more sustainable and investment-friendly hospitality sector. I will support initiatives that protect and enhance asset value, encourage responsible tourism development, advocate for fair and balanced policies, and promote industry coordination during crises and challenging situations.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
Through PHOA, we can work together to facilitate networking opportunities, as well as encourage sharing of ideas and best practices to achieve operational excellence and develop our people.
With both owner and management company experience spanning almost 30 years, I believe that I can represent a well-balanced point of view on industry issues.

OWNER’S VISION FOR PHOA:
1. Championing Owner Interests through Unified Advocacy
Prioritizing Inbound and Domestic Growth. Advocate aggressively for legislative and fiscal policies that safeguard the local hospitality workforce and stimulate domestic travel , ensuring that regulatory frameworks prioritize our home-grown industry over outbound spending.
Amplifying the Owner’s Voice. Utilize the operational insights and collective scale of leading the country’s largest homegrown hotel network to ensure hotel owners have a decisive, unified voice in national tourism agendas, infrastructure planning, and public-private dialogues.
2. Driving Asset Value via Ecosystem Integration and Agility
Township and Mixed-Use Synergy. Shift the narrative from standalone hotels to integrated lifestyle anchors. By linking properties directly with mixed-use townships, corporate hubs, and residential ecosystems, we maximize asset yield and capture multi-layered revenue streams.
Operational Resilience. Lead the charge on operational efficiencies, local hiring, and future-ready adaptations—such as specialized MICE capabilities and inclusive tourism certifications (e.g., Muslim-friendly and Halal accommodations)—to safeguard margins and drive long-term property valuations.
3. Fostering a Favorable Investment Climate
De-risking Regional Expansion. Demonstrate the commercial viability of emerging regional tourism hubs and frontier destinations, proving to institutional investors that diversified, sustainable development yields resilient financial returns.
Building Global Investor Trust. Champion seamless infrastructure connectivity and brand standard enhancements across the association to elevate the international competitiveness of local hospitality assets, creating a transparent and highly attractive environment for forward-looking capital.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
As hotel owners, we aren’t just selling rooms; we are building communities, preserving cultural pride, and driving the national economy. My goal on the PHOA board is to ensure that homegrown innovation receives a global spotlight, and that our growth is both inclusive and distinctly Filipino.
Championing the Homegrown Advantage & Inbound Resilience. Local hotel owners and operators are the backbone of the economy. PHOA must lead policies that prioritize domestic tourism retention, infrastructure development, and keeping tourism spend within our borders.
Protecting Local Cooperatives & Talents. Drive the conversation around preserving and strengthening inbound tourism frameworks. Echoing the sentiment that we must protect our own backyard, advocate for policy dialogues that prioritize local jobs and hotel asset protections over outbound tourism subsidies.
Operational Scale for Independent & Local Owners. Share the playbook of managing a massive, multi-brand homegrown inventory (spanning over 9,000 keys) to help mid-sized and independent Filipino hotel owners optimize procurement, combat rising operational costs, and build resilient business models.
Township and Destination-Led Integration. Advocate for shifting away from isolated hotel developments toward integrated township ecosystems. Demonstrate how pairing hospitality with commercial, retail, and recreational spaces creates self-sustaining tourism hubs that anchor local economies.
Institutionalizing the “Filipino Brand” on the Global Stage. Authentic hospitality is our greatest export, but it must be backed by rigorous, scalable operational standards to compete with global mega-chains.
Standardizing Cultural Service Delivery. Introduce a framework to the wider industry inspired by the Sampaguita service standard—proving that local culture isn’t just a tagline, but an intentional operational blueprint rooted in dignity, honor, and care.
Elevating the Country’s Unified Identity. Work with the board and the Department of Tourism (DOT) to build deeper emotional connections with international travelers, positioning the Philippines not just as a collection of beautiful islands, but as an unmatched, service-driven destination brand.
Unlocking Niche, High-Value Global Markets. To capture regional market share, the Philippines must actively diversify its appeal and aggressively pursue high-growth travel demographics.
Scaling Muslim-Friendly Tourism (MFAE). Leverage your pioneering success in securing 100% Muslim-Friendly Accommodation Establishments accreditation. Advocate for a nationwide PHOA initiative to help member hotels build Halal-friendly infrastructure and earn CrescentRating validations, opening massive revenue pipelines from the ASEAN region and the Middle East.
Positioning the Philippines as a Premier MICE Hub. Utilize your extensive background in large-scale event planning and international summits to lobby for regional MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) infrastructure, transforming secondary and tertiary destinations into globally competitive business tourism destinations.
Sustainable Growth via Human Capital & Inclusive Leadership. The hospitality industry cannot achieve sustainable growth without a healthy, empowered workforce. Sustainable tourism means sustaining the people who deliver it.
The Circle of Happiness Industry Model. Promote a wellness and workforce retention agenda within PHOA that treats associates as whole individuals. Happy, secure talent directly translates to superior guest satisfaction and lower industry turnover.
Advancing Gender Parity & Youth Mentorship. Champion inclusive leadership development programs within the association. Normalize pathways for female executives to occupy decision-making roles and back the creation of a Next-Gen Leadership Council under PHOA to mentor the next wave of Filipino hoteliers.
Executive Vice President
SM Hotels and Conventions Corp.
OWNER’S VISION FOR PHOA:
My vision for PHOA is for it to be recognized as the leading advocacy organization representing hotel owners and senior industry leaders across the Philippines—championing and protecting the interests of all hotel owners regardless of size, scale, or category.
I envision PHOA continuing to drive meaningful and impactful initiatives while working closely with stakeholders in both the government and private sectors to help shape a more progressive, competitive, and investment-friendly hospitality landscape. Through stronger collaboration and strategic engagement, PHOA can help encourage greater domestic and foreign investments in tourism infrastructure and development.
By doing so, the organization will play a vital role in advancing sustainable growth, strengthening industry resilience, and contributing meaningfully to the continued success of the Philippine tourism and hospitality industry across the country.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
With over 45 years of global and local experience in the hospitality industry, and in my current role as Executive Vice President of SM Hotels and Conventions Corp., I believe I can meaningfully contribute to advancing the growth and development of Philippine tourism and hospitality.
I have the opportunity to influence our owning company’s continued investments in hotel development, particularly in areas where quality accommodation inventory remains limited— especially across secondary and tertiary cities. Expanding hospitality infrastructure in these emerging destinations creates opportunities to attract both domestic and international travelers while showcasing the genuine warmth, service excellence, and distinct brand of Filipino hospitality.
At the same time, expanding trade and exhibition facilities beyond the country’s major urban centers can serve as an important catalyst for regional economic growth. By enabling industries to bring trade shows, conventions, exhibitions, and business events closer to emerging markets, we can stimulate tourism activity, generate employment, strengthen local economies, and create more balanced and inclusive development across the nation.
Through these efforts, I envision a hospitality and tourism landscape that is more accessible, investment-ready, and sustainable—one that supports national growth while creating opportunities for communities throughout the Philippines.

By fostering collaboration, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement, I aim to create a more favorable investment climate for the association—one that balances immediate needs with future growth, safeguards owner equity, and strengthens community trust.

OWNER’S VISION FOR PHOA:
My vision is for PHOA to be the leading advocate for hotel owners in the Philippines—one that actively drives stronger asset performance, builds higher investor confidence, and fosters a more enabling business environment for our industry.
If entrusted with the role, I will work to ensure that owners’ interests are not only heard, but effectively represented. Our industry challenges cannot be addressed in silos—we need to come together through collective action, aligned in purpose, and committed to shared progress.
At the same time, we must maximize opportunities for growth through stronger collaboration, continuous innovation, and sound, practical policy advocacy. These are not just ideas, but achievable actions that can deliver real impact for our industry.
This is something I strongly believe we can accomplish—together. And this is what I am committed to helping deliver.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
With over four decades in this industry, I’ve had the benefit of seeing it from both sides—global brands and owner-led organizations. That experience has shaped how I think: balancing best practices with what actually works for owners on the ground.
I’ve been fortunate to help build Ascott into the leading serviced residence brand in the Philippines, and to be part of growing Robinsons Hotels into the country’s largest homegrown hotel group. These weren’t just growth stories—they were about creating real, lasting value.
If entrusted with the role, I intend to bring that same mindset into PHOA. Our industry is evolving quickly—market demands are shifting, talent is a growing concern, and sustainability and digital transformation are no longer optional. At the same time, there is a clear need for stronger, more unified representation for hotel owners.
What I will push for are practical, achievable solutions—built through collaboration. Working closely with owners, operators, and government, we can improve competitiveness, strengthen resilience, and create a more attractive environment for investment.
I also strongly believe that growth must be responsible. By promoting good governance, sustainability, and stronger industry partnerships, we can elevate not just individual assets—but the reputation of Philippine hospitality as a whole.
Ultimately, my commitment is simple: to help build an industry that is stronger, more resilient, and globally respected—one that continues to create value, opportunities, and pride for the Philippines.

OWNER’S VISION FOR PHOA:
My vision for the PHOA is to be a strong and responsible voice for all property owners, focused on transparency, accountability, and creating long-term value for our community. Beyond ensuring that the property is well-maintained, I believe the association should play an active role in enhancing our property’s reputation, competitiveness, and overall investment appeal in a constantly evolving real estate market.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
Having spent years in the hospitality sector, I have witnessed both the opportunities and challenges that continue to shape our industry. I am passionate about contributing to its growth by sharing my experience, supporting innovation, and helping businesses adapt to changing guest expectations, workforce needs, technological advancements, and an increasingly competitive global market.
I strongly believe that sustainability should be at the heart of how we grow our industry. It is not simply about meeting standards or regulations—it is about making responsible decisions that benefit our businesses, our communities, and future generations. By promoting sustainable practices, responsible resource management, and meaningful community engagement, we can create long-term value while preserving the destinations and experiences that make the Philippines unique.

OWNER’S VISION FOR PHOA:
As a hotel owner and investor, my vision is to ensure that PHOA actively champions the interests of all its members — not just the large, well-established properties in major destinations. I am committed to advocating for smaller boutique hotels and those situated in less prominent locations across the Philippines, ensuring they receive equal representation, resources, and growth opportunities. By elevating underserved markets and fostering a more inclusive investment climate, we can build sustainable asset value and long-term success for owners throughout the entire country.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
My background in hotel investment consulting at Leechiu Property Consultants has given me a comprehensive understanding of the Philippine hospitality landscape — from market feasibility and asset valuation to investment structuring and operator selection. Working alongside developers, investors, and institutional clients has sharpened my ability to identify both the opportunities and structural gaps that define our industry today.
This professional foundation, combined with my direct experience as a hotel owner and investor, positions me to contribute to PHOA with both a macro-level strategic view and a ground-level understanding of what owners truly need. I have seen firsthand how investment decisions are made, where capital flows, and why certain markets — particularly those outside major tourism corridors — are consistently overlooked.
I intend to leverage this context to advocate for policies and initiatives that promote sustainable, inclusive growth across the Philippine hospitality sector. By bridging the worlds of investment advisory and property ownership, I can help PHOA make a stronger case for the industry to government stakeholders, international investors, and regional partners — ultimately elevating the Philippines as a diverse and competitive destination on the global stage.
Vice President for Hospitality, AppleOne Group
Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort
OWNER’S VISION FOR PHOA:
My vision for PHOA is to champion a more inclusive and collaborative hospitality industry that reflects the full breadth and diversity of the Philippines. While Metro Manila remains a key gateway and business hub, the country’s strongest hospitality assets extend far beyond the capital. Across Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, our destinations offer rich cultural heritage, unique culinary traditions, extraordinary natural attractions, and the warmth and hospitality of our people.
As the industry continues to attract new investors, operators, and tourism stakeholders, PHOA has an opportunity to strengthen representation from all regions of the country.
I aim to advocate for initiatives that promote equitable growth, encourage knowledge-sharing among members, and create greater opportunities for owners and investors nationwide. By fostering stronger collaboration between destinations and industry players, we can enhance asset value, improve competitiveness, and cultivate a more attractive and sustainable investment climate for the Philippine hospitality sector.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
I believe one of the industry’s most important responsibilities is to bridge the current generation of hospitality leaders with the next generation of professionals, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders. Hospitality should not be viewed solely as an industry for those working within it, but as a sector that creates opportunities for communities, preserves culture, and drives economic growth across the country.
Drawing from my experience and passion for the industry, I hope to contribute by encouraging greater engagement, awareness, and collaboration among all stakeholders—from property owners and operators to local communities and future industry leaders. I am committed to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable growth, responsible tourism, and long-term value creation.
The Philippines possesses a distinct competitive advantage through its world-class natural resources, cultural diversity, and genuine Filipino hospitality. By leveraging these strengths and embracing innovation, we can further elevate the Philippine hospitality industry and strengthen its position on the regional and global stage. Ultimately, my vision is to help cultivate a more informed, connected, and forward-looking industry where stakeholders understand not only what they do, but also the broader impact of their contributions to the country’s hospitality ecosystem.

OWNER’S VISION FOR PHOA:
My vision is to see businesses embracing wellness as a strategic contributor to increase their bottom line. I would like to share this direction with the government and private sector so that they can create policies which support the wellness industry. Data from the Global Wellness Institute shows that the wellness industry is a $6.8 Trillion Dollar industry in 2024, growing at 6.2% CAGR 2019-2024. The various sectors of wellness offer varied and significant opportunities for the country to take advantage of to invest in wellness, create more jobs, improve businesses’ bottom line and most importantly ensure healthier Filipinos.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
Sharing my extensive background in the wellness industry and wellness tourism can help the government and private businesses take advantage of the opportunities in the wellness industry. They can create initiatives that will propel job creation and improve the health of the Filipinos. The Filipino Brand of Wellness which I helped develop can make the country stand out in the global arena.
